WENHASTON BOWLS CLUB TRIUMPHS IN 2023

What a year Wenhaston Bowls Club has had. 1st place in the Lowestoft League (for the 6th year in a row) captained by Chris Peck, 1st place in the Halesworth 3-wood league captained by Elaine Peck, 2nd place in the Sax league captained by Kevin 'Wink' Canham and 4th place in the extremely competitive Bowls England league captained by Malcolm Napthine. Well done to Chris, Elaine, Wink, Malcolm and all this year's bowlers.

Outside of the league games Wenhaston has been successful within the County. Chris and Elaine Peck and Kim Dyer all made it to this year's federation national finals in Skegness after winning their matches in the county finals.

Elaine was at Skegness as county champion in the 4 wood singles but unfortunately lost her 1st round match. Elaine was also runner up in the Bowls England 4 wood singles and qualified for Leamington. Unfortunately due to the BE and EBF finals clashing on dates she had to withdraw from the Leamington finals as she cannot be in 2 places at the same time.

Chris and Elaine made it to round 2 of the senior pairs at Skegness but sadly lost 17-11. Still a very good effort and a big well done to Chris and Elaine for getting there in the first place.

Chris, Elaine and Kim were in the open triples. There were 4 teams who won all 4 matches but the Wenhaston lot triumphed on shots.

In the Suffolk ladies games at Skegness, the Donald Steward and the Jubilee Vase Wenhaston were represented by Elaine Peck, Lesley Dyer, Paula Gooch and Lesley Alexander as part of these teams. The Donald Steward lost but the Jubilee Vase team won and are national champions.

AGM 2022
SECRETARIES REPORT

Thank you all for coming. I think you will all agree the weather this year has been fantastic, some may say even too warm, however I can imagine how nice it has been bowling in the warm summer evenings this season. I would like to thank everyone who has bowled this season, I know with 4 leagues plus cup matches it can get too strenuous at times but your efforts do not go unmissed. I would also like to add a big thank you and well done to Wink, Chris, Nigel and Elaine for their hard work to get teams week in week out. We re-entered the Halesworth 3 wood league this season so that added extra pressure for players but thanks to Elaine and her teams every game was played in the end.
Congratulations to Wink and the sax league team who finished 3rd in the league, Chris and his team who finished 1st in the league, Nigel and his team who finished 5th and Elaine and her team who finished 1st in the league and were also winners of the league cup. Well done to you all.
I must also congratulate Richard for week in week out leading the Thursday afternoon roll up for our social members and anyone who wanted to play.
As well as Wenhaston being successful in the leagues, Wenhaston players did very well overall in this year's county competitions.
Elaine got to 2 federation semi finals for 4 wood singles and senior singles but unfortunately lost.
Leslie and Elaine lost in the area final  Bowls England ladies pairs at Marlborough.
Chris and Elaine lost in the federation mixed pairs area semi final.
Chris and Elaine lost in the federation senior mixed pairs final at Wenhaston.
Chris and Elaine lost in the bowls england mixed pairs area final at great Cornard
Chris Kim and Nigel lost in the federation mens triples area final.
A massive congratulations to Kim and Peter who won the senior pairs at skegness!
This year Wenhaston was the venue for the area finals which I am told was hard work but a great day. I thank everyone for pulling their weight to make it a success.
We have also held 2 great tournaments here this season, the first one being the first ever Dick Clark memorial shield australian pairs competition which was a great day and won by John Robbinson and Carl Vincent. I think this is a great way of remembering our old friend Dick. I thank Tom Daly for organising it and as always all the spectators and helpers.
We also had our annual tournament which was another great day and won by Chris and Elaine Peck and Ray Heater. Again thanks to all the helpers and spectators on that day, and thank you to Tom Keen and Tom Daly for organising it.
Something new this year was our Social Committee made up of Elaine Peck and the two Jennies. Thanks to them along with Malcom and Wink we were able to enjoy a lovely outing up the Norfolk broads. It was a great evening so thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of it. I'm sure our social committee will make sure we have more of these outings to look forward to.
A few more thank you's and then I'll shut up. Thank you to David and John for their hard work in continuing to keep our green looking great. I think it's safe to say ours has probably been one of the best this season. Thanks to Tom for all his hard work behind the scenes as chairman and thanks to Kim for stepping in for me when I am not around.
Enjoy the carpet bowls season everyone.

Wenhaston Bowls Club 2021 report

Wenhaston Bowls club has recently held their annual AGM. Members of the club gathered to discuss the successful season and other matters.

Wenhaston Bowls Club had a very successful season, both as a club and as individuals. Out of the three leagues Wenhaston were entered into, they secured 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place. Congratulations to all three captains, Kevin Canham, Nigel Roberts and Chris Peck who has now won his league 4 years on the trot. David Hambling also took his junior cup team all the way to the finals, winning it for the first time since 1957.

Individual members also done the club proud this year in county competitions. Elaine Peck narrowly lost 15-14 in the Bowls England 2-wood singles final, which was a first time final in this category for the club, John Robinson and Nigel Roberts won the over 60s Bowls England pairs making that 5 years for them playing in the final, Nigel also narrowly lost the veterans singles in

the finals in Skegness and Kim dyer won the secretaries singles on behalf of Blundeston.

To mark the end of the season, a meal was held at Halesworth Golf Club.

Due to circumstances during the season, the club elected a new chairperson, Tom Daly. Tom was re-elected at the AGM.

At the AGM a tribute was made to Jean Macheath, who was the previous chair and now a life honoree member of the club.

Unfortunately with a great season, the club was also bought great sadness as two beloved members sadly passed away. In September the news broke that Dick Clarke, a much loved member of the club had suddenly passed away. The club honored him at the AGM by unveiling a new shield in his name. And more recently Mel Dyer, who was also a much loved team mate and friend in both the Wenhaston club and the Blundeston club.

Both passings came as a shock to members and has left a gaping hole in the club, their memories will not be forgotten. Wenhaston Bowls Club would like to express their condolences to Dick’s family and Mel’s family.

A lot of work has been done on the green since the coronavirus pandemic including re-seeding the whole surface. This hard work is led by greenkeeper David Hambling, who is assisted by John Robinson and on occasions when needed volunteers from the club.

The club and its members look forward to the coming season.
